Auckland Hydrology Trip

Waitakere Dam and Western Catchments
Friday 1 December
Meet at AUT: Gate 4, Mayoral Drive Bus Stop at 8.45am for a 9am departure

Join us on a trip through the Waitakere Ranges to take in 360° views from the top of Pukematekeo, a prominent peak in West Auckland, then travel to the Waitakere Dam for a tour and lunch. We will then head to the Rangitopuni Stream to discuss the extreme flooding of the 2023 Auckland Anniversary storm and Cyclone Gabrielle and impacts on our hydrological monitoring sites.

 

The Auckland City Hydro field trip will conclude back at AUT, or you can have an airport drop off and save a taxi fare! 
Planned arrival time at the airport is 4.00pm so please book flights departing 5.00pm at the earliest.

Includes: Bus transport and lunch, a guided tour of the Waitakere Dam, airport drop off

​

What to bring:

  • Comfortable walking shoes

  • Suitable clothing for Auckland's variable climate - sunscreen, hat and raincoat

  • Water bottle - refills available during the day

  • Camera

  • Any personal medication that may be required

Waiheke Island Trip 

Friday 1 December
Meet at Queens Wharf, Pier 11/12 by 8am for an 8.15am ferry departure
Trip Leader: Mauricio Taulis, Beca

 

Take the ferry over to Waiheke Island and spend the day visiting sites of interest around this iconic Auckland tourist spot, and it wouldn’t be a trip to Waiheke without checking out a winery!

Delegates will travel around the island together, by bus.

​

The ferry will return later in the day. Delegates selecting this trip would be advised to stay in Auckland on Friday night.

​

Includes: Ferry trip to Waiheke Island / bus transport around the Island and lunch at The Batch Winery. Wine tasting included.

What to bring:

  • Comfortable walking shoes

  • Water bottle

  • Camera

  • Suitable clothing for Auckland's variable climate (long sleeved shirts, sunhat, sun block, rain jacket)

  • Any personal medication you may require
